DAUM in Desktop 3.X.X

DAUM ergometers are connected with computer through serial port (usually older models) or by ethernet cable. Some types of DAUM ergometers offer also possibility of wireless connection using BlueTooth technology. Choose what type of connection has your ergometer.

  • Serial port
  • Ethernet port
  • BlueTooth wireless interface

Information: If you don’t know what interface has your device take a look at the back side of its control panel. The port is usually located there.

Information: You will need a cable specified further or special adapter. If you have bought a box version of VirtualTraining (previously UniVET System), required cable is included in the package (except serial cable). Online version package contains only software license. Accessories has to be bougth additionally. All types of cables needed are available in our e-shop. Special BlueTooth adapter is not distributed with program. In case of need buy it from manufacturer of DAUM ergometers.

DAUM - Serial port

If your computer has a serial port you need just ordinary serial cable COM (picture 1). Connect serial ports of computer and ergometer by the cable. Connection of your device with computer is done.

If your computer doesn‘t have a serial port you need serial cable converting USB to serial port (COM RS-232), see picture 2. Before buying a USB-COM reduction check out if the package contains drivers for your operating system. We recommend reduction Prolific. The reduction is available in our shop. First install drivers of USB-COM reduction. Installation CD (including installation instructions) is usually included in the package. Alternatively you can use installation files from Drivers section. If the cable is too short use extension cables. Then connect cable to your computer and ergometer. After connection a new virtual COM port should be automatically created (if possible connect your computer to internet in this moment, operating system will attempt to find proper drivers automatically).

Computer and ergometer have to be connected to the same computer network. Choose one of the following models of connection. And both devices must be also connected to internet.

Connection principles:

Model 1 –Direct connection to the home computer network
daum_eth_obr2.jpg  ERGOMETER is connected to the common home computer network. Cable is pluged in the same router or switch as the computer (computer can be connected to the network also wirelessly).
daum_eth_obr2b.jpg If the computer network is set correctly, allow a DHCP mode on the ergometer and other parameters will be loaded automatically. Find an IP address assigned to ergometer by the computer network. This address has to be inserted to UniVET System. Follow the instructions below.
Model 2 –Direct connection with computer
daum_eth_obr3.jpg  ERGOMETER is connected directly with computer by a cable. Computer is connected to the home computer network wirelessly through WiFi. This model is not so stable (depends on WiFi and internet connection quality) and we don’t recommend it..

Follow the instructions below to set the connection:

  • Plug the ergometer in the electricity
  • Find out current settings of your computer network
    • Go to the section „Network and internet“ in control panels
    • Click on the name of the current network connection. Current state of the connection will display.
    • Press the button „Details“ (picture 2)
    • Note IPv4 address, Subnet Mask and Default Gateway from displayed details (see picture 3)

  • Set up IP address of ergometer
    • Press the button „Menu“ on the screen of ergometer (see picture 4)
    • Go on Settings -> Device Data -> Network
    • Set up DHCP to „No“
    • Set up IP address on that IP address which hasn‘t been assigned to any other device
    • Example: If your IP address is 192.168.1.32, keep the first three numbers and the last number set for instance on value 240. IP address of your ergometer will be 192.168.1.3
    • Set the subnet mask to the same value as the subnet mask of your computer
    • Set the Gateway on the same value as the gateway of your computer

DAUM - BlueTooth technology

You need a special BlueTooth adapter for connecting your device using this wireless technology. Drivers of the adapter have to be installed to your computer and adapter has to be set up. Instructions of adapter installation and setings are included in the BlueTooth adapter package. After succesfull installation launch UniVET System and go to „Device Manager“ (Menu-Settings-Device Manager). Tick off the field „Enable searching of DAUM devices“ and „Search DAUM devices connected via COM ports“.
