How to connect KETTLER via USB or via COM

Kettler ergometers are connected with computer through serial port (usually older models) or through USB port.

Communication via USB

To make a connection you need just USB cable A-B (see picture) (no more than 3 meters long, longer versions is not recommended). At first install KETTLER USB driver to your computer. New virtual COM port should be automaticallycreated once installation done and you plug in USB cable and turn on the trainer.

Communication via COM (serial port RS232)

If your computer has a serial port you need just ordinary serial cable - COM (left picture below). Connect serial ports of computer and ergometer by the cable. Connection of your device with computer is done.

If your computer doesn‘t have a serial port you need serial cable converting USB to serial port (COM RS-232), see right picture. Before buying a USB-COM reduction check out if the package contains drivers for your operating system. We recommend reduction with the FTDI chip. The reduction is usually available in shops with electronics. First install drivers of USB-COM reduction. Installation CD (including installation instructions) is usually included in the package. Alternatively you can use the links below in case of FTDI.
